Utilizing Animal-Free Biomaterials for Next-Gen 3D Cell Platforms and Injectable Implants
In recent years, our events have been popular, with individual events attracting over 800
conference guests. The participants are from academia, research institutes, hospitals as
well as pharma and biotech companies around the world.
We are pleased to invite you, respected researchers, leading industry professionals, and esteemed partners, to attend our 10th Annual UPM Biomedicals Conference.
This year we are bringing the event to Switzerland!
Event time: 13:00 -19:00 (UTC+2).
Location: MC³ event venue, Switzerland Innovation Park Basel, Hegenheimermattweg 167D, 4123 Allschwil
Join us to explore three sessions with the following topics:
Session 1: Biomaterials in Implants: Latest innovations to enhance clinical outcomes.
There are unmet needs for new animal-free biomaterials in medical devices and clinical applications. Each year, millions of patients suffer from e.g. orthopaedic diseases or soft tissue loss, which could be treated with implantable biomaterials. Cell transplantation with highly biocompatible material opens new avenues in regenerative medicine.
Speakers in this session:
Michael Gasik, Full Professor at Aalto University Foundation
Sibylle Grad, Principal Scientist bei AO Research Institute Davos
Taina Viheriälä, PhD, Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology, Tampere University
Lauri Paasonen, PhD, Senior Scientist at UPM Biomedicals
Session 2: Automated 3D Cell Culture: Pioneering technologies for next-generation research.
The shift to 3D models in high-throughput and high-content screening is crucial because traditional 2D models often fail to mimic the complexity of human tissues. Advancements towards innovative 3D models aim to improve drug screening accuracy, deepen our understanding of tumour biology, and lead to more effective cancer therapies.
Speakers in this session
Gerard Rubi Sans, Scientist I at MiNK Therapeutics
Session 3: Animal-Free Research: Advancing ethical and sustainable practices.
The need for animal-free research models in medicine has become increasingly evident, driven by ethical concerns and the demand for more human-relevant systems. This session will address key questions around the development and validation of such models, focusing on organ-on-chip technologies and innovative lab techniques that aim to eliminate the use of animals.
Speakers in this session
Pelin Candarlioglu, Director of Immunotherapy
Tilo Weber, Scientific Officer for Animal-Free Science
And more to come... We’ll keep you updated with detailed information as soon as the final details are confirmed.
